Hannah is a kind, smart, faithful, and loving person who is one in a million, or, as the kidney specialist has described her medical case, one in “several hundred million.”
Hannah and Kolby recently prepared to welcome their firstborn child into the world after a smooth pregnancy. What started as a routine birth escalated into a medical emergency after a bedside C-section was needed. Baby and Hannah were sent to ICUs at separate hospitals.
Baby has recovered well, but Hannah’s kidneys began to fail shortly after a post C-section hemorrhage and hypotension. Doctors then came to realize she has Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), a rare and life-threatening condition. Extensive blood testing at the Mayo Clinic is still determining which type of TMA she is dealing with.
Since her admission to the ICU on July 10, Hannah has undergone blood transfusions, plasmapheresis, and dialysis to manage her symptoms and prevent end-stage renal failure. Soliris, an expensive and relatively novel life-saving treatment, was procured by her doctors and offers hope for recovery through ongoing infusions.
After one week in the ICU, Hannah's hemoglobin levels are rising, but her kidneys are not functioning, and much remains unclear. We anxiously await healing for Hannah and reunion for the family.
Please join us in supporting the family with words of encouragement, financial relief, and hope, and join us in encouraging donations of blood and plasma for patients everywhere, who, like Hannah has this week, depend on them to survive.
All funds raised will help the family with medical bills and living expenses (such as doggy daycare for Stella the beloved therapy dog/family pet (known for her appearances at Deer Creek Schools and the Northwest Metropolitan Library “Children Reading to Dogs” program), food, lawn and home services, transportation, personal care products, etc.) that come up during a medical emergency and extended hospital stay.
We hope this fund will give their family some measure of peace as they focus on the most important aspects of the journey in front of them: healing, hope, and faith. This fundraiser is being organized by Mary, Hannah’s sister.
