This holiday season, Refinery is honored to give back to someone who gives to us daily — our FedEx driver, James Allen, and his family. James’s 2-year-old daughter, Khalani, was recently diagnosed with Ependymoma, a rare type of pediatric brain and spinal cord cancer. On November 7, 2024, their world changed.

The Allens have three older children who play a vital role in their little sister’s journey — from helping with her medicine, to keeping her spirits up with play, laughter, and love. Together, the family is navigating countless hospital visits, treatments, and the unknowns that come with this devastating diagnosis.

What struck us most was how we learned about their story. In a simple moment while dropping off deliveries, James was asked how he was doing. His response: “Would you like me to lie, or tell you the truth?” That truth revealed the unimaginable, and we knew we were put in this moment to help.

We are starting this GoFundMe to ease the financial burden on the Allen family — from medical costs to day-to-day needs — so they can focus on what matters most: their Khalani’s fight and their family’s healing.
