The PSL San Antonio branch is excited to announce that we are coming back bigger and better for 2025, with a goal of reuniting 30 families across Texas this June! To do this, we are asking once again for your support to raise funds for transportation, meals, and gifts for San Antonio families to see their loved ones.
Since our inaugural program in 2023, we have taken almost two dozen families thousands of miles across Texas to reunite with loved ones. Read about the 2023 Program or the 2024 Program to see more!
The prison system imposes barriers to family contact, even though decades of research show a clear relationship between family contact and better outcomes, such as in-prison behavior, mental health, and reconviction rates. For example, frequent family visitation results in lower reconviction rates, fewer misconduct citations, and better mental health outcomes (source). Yet, our average family visit last year was 438 miles round trip! It's just another way that this cruel, inhumane system works to keep families separated and isolated just when they need each other the most.
Let's continue to show our community that we are here for each other while we build a powerful people's movement to end mass policing and mass incarceration!
