I’m Terry Tucker, and I’m 60 years old. For years, I made my living tattooing and drawing, but everything changed when I started getting shakes and tremors. At first, I managed to hide it, but eventually, it became impossible to continue working. I was living with my girlfriend in her mom’s house, but one morning I was asked to leave. With little savings, I quickly found myself homeless.

Since being on the street, I’ve been assaulted, spit on, pushed, yelled at, and cursed out. There are days when I don’t even want to wake up. Homelessness is dangerous and lonely, and you can never get enough sleep because someone is always waking you up and telling you to move. After a while, it really gets to you, but you can’t get mad because you don’t own the place. Despite all this, I’ve met some wonderful people—both homeless and not—but the depression and exhaustion are overwhelming.

I’m in the process of applying for social security and SSI, but it takes forever. What I really need right now is a van. Having a van would make my life so much easier. I could finally get the rest I need, which would help with my shaking and tremors. It would give me a safe, private place to sleep, and I know people who would let me park at their place.
