Help Terri Restore Her Vision and Independence

For the past two years, our beloved Terri has been receiving treatment in Edmonton for macular degeneration, undergoing injections every eight weeks to slow down and prevent further vision loss. In the beginning, these treatments helped—her left eye had already suffered an 80% reduction in vision, but her right eye remained strong.

Unfortunately, two weeks ago, everything changed. A blood vessel behind her retina became inflamed and ruptured, causing her right eye—her good eye—to lose 80% of its vision instantly. This devastating turn of events has left her unable to see. She recently received additional treatment from her specialist in Edmonton, but unlike before, it hasn’t helped. Her doctor has told her that her vision may or may not return with continued treatment.

Since that day, there has been no improvement, and the reality is sinking in that her eyesight may not come back. However, there is still hope. We have been connected with a stem cell therapy doctor in Tijuana, Mexico, through someone who has seen remarkable success with this treatment for macular degeneration.

If you know Terri, you know she is the heart and soul of any gathering—the one who lifts others up, offers a helping hand, and gives selflessly to those around her. Asking for help does not come easy to her. She has always taken great pride in her independence. But now, faced with this unexpected challenge, she needs support.

Stem cell therapy offers a chance to repair the damage to her eyes by using her own stem cells, injected intravenously or directly into the eye, depending on her assessment. The process requires a 10-day stay to prepare her immune system for three treatments. However, because this treatment is not covered by Alberta Health Care, the total cost—including the therapy, flights, and accommodations—will exceed $20,000, with most of that going toward the therapy itself.

Losing her sight so suddenly has taken a heavy toll on her mental and emotional well-being. We want nothing more than to give her the best possible chance to regain her independence and quality of life. That’s why we are reaching out—to ask for your support, whether through a donation or by simply sharing her story.

We know times are tough for everyone, and if you’re unable to contribute financially, we completely understand. But if you can share this GoFundMe and keep Terri in your thoughts and prayers, it would mean the world to us. Time is critical, and we are making arrangements to begin treatment within the next 10 days to maximize her chances of success.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and love. You are helping our mom, grandma, and great-grandma fight for the quality of life she so deserves.

With love,
Annette, Jason, and Sue (and families)
