Help Tasha, Tony, and Tabari Find Stability
Donation protected
My name is Jacquelyn and I am raising money to help Tasha and Tony Owens and their 11-year-old son, Tabari. Tasha and Tony are recent transplants to the Charleston area. They have had a hard time getting established here because of Tasha's health issues and their lack of transportation. They have been living at an Extended Stay hotel while Tony took the bus to work 7 days a week. Last week, Tasha took a turn for the worse and Tony was laid off. Tasha, whose congestive heart failure was being managed, destabilized, and she was admitted to Trident Hospital with life-threatening cardiac symptoms. She is now awaiting transfer to MUSC for a heart transplant. She will not be released from the hospital until she has received a heart. In the meantime, Tony is responsible for Tabari's needs, is seeking employment, and is taking the bus back and forth to visit Tasha at the hospital when he is able.
While Tony is consistently applying for jobs and taking interviews, the close proximity to Christmas makes it challenging because so few places are hiring between now and the new year. Even when Tony does begin to work, the lack of transportation will continue to be an issue. I am hoping to raise $10,000 to help this family get their feet on the ground. This would provide around $5,000 to buy a vehicle and $5,000 to pay for a security deposit and first month's rent on an apartment, as well as cover some immediate expenses that are accruing during his unemployment.
Having an apartment and a car would be life-changing for this family! It would provide stability and peace of mind for Tasha, who needs to focus on her health. It would provide a home for Tabari where he could play outside and be established in one school for the remainder of the academic year. It would also allow Tony to have consistent transportation to work, the hospital, the grocery store, etc., so he can take care of Tabari and the house while Tasha is receiving medical treatment. After her heart transplant, once she has returned home, this car will allow Tasha to get back and forth to follow-up medical appointments.
The challenges this family is facing feel insurmountable, yet nothing is impossible for God. They are relying on Him to take care of Tasha as she is in this fragile condition and to provide employment for Tony, as his heart is to provide for his family. Prayerfully consider what you could give to help them during this difficult time. It would make such a difference!
