Help Us Rebuild My Parents’ Homes After Hurricane Melissa

Hello, my name is Tanya Page. I was born and raised in Jamaica and my mom, brother and dad still live there. My mom lives in Port Antonio, and my dad in a Rastafarian village in Montego Bay. I’ve thought long and hard about starting this fundraiser because asking for help isn’t something that comes easy to me. But after some encouragement from friends and family, I’ve realized there’s nothing wrong with reaching out when life throws something this difficult our way.

Earlier this year, we started building a house in Port Antonio, Jamaica for my mom —something she’s needed fixed for years. We were so excited to finally begin. The foundation and outer walls were up, and we were getting closer to making that possible.

Then Hurricane Melissa hit.

The storm tore through our community and caused heartbreaking damage. Part of my mom’s new house — the foundation and walls we had just finished — was knocked down. And as if that wasn’t enough, my dad’s home also suffered severe wind damage in Montego Bay. We’re now facing the reality that we have to completely rebuild his house, too.

Our family is doing everything we can to repair and rebuild, but the costs are overwhelming. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward rebuilding both my mom’s and dad’s homes — helping them get back on their feet and have a safe place to live again.
