Help Tanya fix her parents' house damaged by rocket debris

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tanya and I'm looking for help. I'm raising funds to help my 73 year old parents to restore their house that badly suffered from rocket debris fall on the 8th of July 2024, in Kyiv, Ukraine.

What happened?

On the 8th of July russia launched a massive missile attack on civilian Ukrainian infrastructure. One of the missiles was shot down and debris landed in the garden of two of my families houses, in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. In a matter of seconds, 70 years worth of hard work and investment was gone, for no reason at all other than russian aggression.

My step-sister’s husband was in the house at the moment of impact and incredibly survived with just concussion and minor injuries. The two cats were lucky to survive too.

Below you will see what is now left of the beautiful garden that used to be full of flowers, plants and cherry trees. Today it's a crater about 4m deep.

What is the damage?

By sheer luck, my parents' house kept standing. My step-sister's house that is located on the same land plot is gone with only 2 walls left that are still crumbling.

Apart of clearing out the dust, rocket remains etc we estimate the following works to be done to sustain our parents' place.

  • Roof replacement
  • Fencing
  • Car will require repairs
  • The bearing wall seems to be shaken badly, needs exploring to make sure it’s safe to stay in
  • Full survey of pipes and connections for utilities + fixings
  • All windows and window frames
  • All doorframes and doors
  • Kitchen appliances and furniture that were broken
  • Bathroom infrastructure that was broken
  • Some of the large furniture items need mending
  • Bed mattresses and sofa will all need replaced as glass showered all over the house

You will see a video slider with some of the pictures. It is difficult for me to share them public as I am a very private person, however in the circumstances we do not have much other choice. Several pictures are provided below too...

Why have I started this fund-raiser?

I have never asked for anything before. I work to get things I need for myself and my family. My family have never asked either but there is simply no other option at the moment as there will not be any insurance payout for this. If we cannot raise funds quickly then it will be impossible to start any rebuild before winter. Then the damage will get even worse. I cannot bear the thought of my parents to be going through this after years of hard work and dedication to building a family sanctuary for all of us!

My family have used large part of their savings to get through the first two and a half years of war. These days they mainly rely on Ukrainian pension equivalent of just £55 a month, in the best case scenario £115 a month, per person. With us (kids) helping, this is still quite humble allowance that doesn't stretch too far.

With the house damage, there is a possibility of some small compensation payout from the state, but this is likely to be a very long, drawn out and bureaucratic process that will be far too late if it even happens.

What can be done?

An immediate priority is providing some temporary accommodation for my step-sister’s husband as he is currently homeless with nowhere to go. His job is at major risk because the car has also been damaged by the same debris.

If we can raise a reasonable sum then we can pay for materials and contractors to start repairing some of the damage and hopefully make the house weathertight before the harsh Ukrainian winter. We would also be in a position to make first repairs to the cars to enable my brother-in-law work again, and give my parents a chance to shop for building materials etc.

If you are able to spare anything to help it would be massively appreciated. Please share the link with any friends and family as well. Thank you!
