As a single mom, I always looked for ways to help my adopted daughters 12 and 13, grow into confident, resilient young women. They came into my life carrying stories written long before I met them—stories of uncertainty, of change, and, more recently, of healing.

This summer, I have decided to send them to camp. I know that they will be stepping into unfamiliar territory—away from home, away from me—but I also know they needed that space to stretch their wings.
