Tamika's cancer and heart failure Journey

Hi, my name is Tamika Hernandez. I am 34 years old and raising 5 daughters. In 2020, I was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma. I continued working as a CNA at the Wyoming state hospital. I then found out I was pregnant with my 5th daughter 2 months after my 1st radiation treatment. I was excited and filled with joy!

Unfortunately, 2 months after I had her, I was diagnosed with Peripartum cardiomyopathy (pregnancy heart failure) The damage that was done to my heart was extensive. In Jan of 2023 almost lost my life due to cardiac septic shock but by God's Grace I survived, I recently had a heart valve clip put in and a hole patched. However, I still need to have a pacemaker and defibrillator put in,in the future. I recently tried to go back to work and it was just too much. I was told a heart transplant is something I need to consider but that is pretty drastic and costs an amount I could never afford. I simply want to live and enjoy life without the worries of trying to provide the necessities for my girls.
