Help Tameshia Shelton Heal and Rebuild

How do you begin to rebuild a life when everything has been stripped away from you? For 11 agonizing years, our family has lived a nightmare. In 2015, my mother, Tameshia Shelton, was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life in prison for a tragedy she did not commit. She entered prison a devoted mother of four with no criminal record and a home that was completely paid off. While she sat in a cell, the world she built crumbled. She lost her home. She lost her independence. And worst of all, we lost over a decade of irreplaceable milestones together. The toll on our family's mental health has left deep, invisible scars on her children. Yet, through the depression and trauma, my mom stayed incredibly strong. Her faith and her desire to hold her kids again are the only things that kept her alive.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals has finally reversed her conviction, and she is coming home! But the woman returning to us is broken physically. During her wrongful imprisonment, my mom’s health deteriorated drastically. Today, she lives with a severe disability and suffers from constant, violent seizures. Watching her fight for her life behind a prison cell—without the correct medical care—is a pain we wouldn’t wish on anyone. We have felt so powerless, able to do nothing but pray. My aunt has been the strongest of all, living with the crushing anxiety of never knowing what phone call she is going to receive. Not knowing if we are going to see her in a wheelchair, walking, or at all has been the hardest thing we have ever endured.

Now that she is no longer behind bars, even if not yet free from this legal nightmare, she survived a system that stole her youth, her peace, and her home. Our only goal is to make sure she never has to worry financially again. She shouldn't have to fight just to survive. Your donations will go directly toward critical medical care and immediate seizure medications, securing safe housing to replace the home taken from her, and mental health counseling to help her heal from this institutional trauma. Please consider supporting our family as we help my mom heal and rebuild. Even if you cannot donate, simply sharing our story and passing this link along means the world to us. Every single share brings my mom closer to the peace, safety, and medical care she desperately deserves.
