Help Tahani and her family survive the war in Gaza My name is Tahani, and I reach out to you with a heavy heart on behalf of my family who are suffering from the ongoing war in Gaza. Amidst the devastating bombing and destruction, we are struggling to survive. I am here to share our story, in the hope that you will help us travel out of Gaza so that my small family and I can live in peace and find the strength to carry on. Before the war, our lives were different. My family lived in relative peace. I owned a successful hair salon in Rafah, a place we were proud of. The salon was a symbol of hard work, where we would gather and share moments of joy amidst the struggles of daily life. But now, that salon is nothing but rubble, like so much of our world. My mother, who had been battling cancer, was recently released from the hospital due to the war. She now lives with a shunt, her condition exacerbated by the stress and violence around us. My father suffers from several chronic health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and gout, making it nearly impossible for him to get the care he so desperately needs in this environment. I too have diabetes and my child suffers from severe calcium deficiency and malnutrition, and I do everything I can to care for my loved ones amidst the chaos. But war has taken too much from us. I have already lost family members: my uncle and cousins were tragically killed, caught up in the mass killings in Saar Belila. Every day we face more loss and more devastation. Despite it all, my son Sand, who is only 18 months old and was born after seven years of suffering and a long journey of treatment and injections, remains my beacon of hope. He and my unborn child are the reasons I keep fighting. In a world where everything seems uncertain, their smiles keep me going. Our home, like so many others, was destroyed in the bombing. We had no choice but to seek shelter underground, sharing it with other families who had lost everything. The cold and damp make it hard to sleep, but we find moments of warmth in the love we share. I remember one day, after the bombing had subsided, I went out with Sand to look for food and water. As we walked through the rubble, Sand asked me, “Mama, why is the sky angry with us?” I held back my tears and said, “No, my dear, the sky is not angry. It is just sad, but it will smile soon.” When I returned to the shelter, I managed to get a small amount of bread, water and some milk for Sand. At that moment, I realized that no matter how difficult things are, the love between a mother and her child can never be broken. But we need your help. The shelter we have is not enough to protect us from the cold, and the cost of food has risen beyond what we can afford. The war has drained all our resources, and we have no way to secure the basics to survive each day. We are asking for your help to buy a tent for shelter and provide basic needs for my family. All donations will go towards buying food, water and basic supplies to help us get through these difficult times. Please, if you can help in any way, whether by donating or sharing our story, it would mean a lot to us. Your kindness will give us a chance to survive and rebuild when this war is finally over. Thank you for your support, and for standing with us during these unimaginable times.
