Since December 3, 2018, my son and I have been facing unimaginable challenges. That was the day we lost my husband to a heart aneurysm, and I truly believe COVID played a role in his passing, even though it wasn’t widely known at the time. The pain of that day was made even harder because my son, who was just 10 years old, found his father and ran to me in terror. Since then, our lives have been filled with hardship, uncertainty, and heartbreak.

On top of our grief, both my son and I have faced serious health issues. I have been diagnosed with lupus, type 2 diabetes, anxiety, and depression, and I am still recovering from knee surgery that never healed properly. My son has endured even more—he’s had a softball-sized tumor removed from his head, colon cancer surgery, a tumor removed from his foot, and now faces another large tumor that needs to be removed. But he can’t have the surgery until we have a stable home for him to recover in. We are currently homeless, with no family to turn to, and have been shunned for years. It feels like no one cares, but I am reaching out in hope that someone will.

Having a home and a vehicle would mean everything to us. It would give us the security and foundation we need to heal, recover from surgeries, and rebuild our lives. It would help us access medical care, provide a safe place for my son to recover, and offer hope for a better future.
