Water for Tabanca Dana - Supporting a Rural African Village

Donation protected
Help bring clean, safe water to Tabanca Dana, a rural village in Guinea-Bissau. This initiative will support the construction of three new wells, helping over a dozen families.

My name is Dana Redford, and I’m the father of Laura (Grade 6) and David (Grade 3). Our family has been engaged with Tabanca Dana for several years, and this project now provides an opportunity to connect our school and family community here with a real, tangible act of global solidarity.

Guinea-Bissau has faced turbulent times in recent years. However, beyond the political instability, everyday families continue to work, farm, teach, and raise their children — often without reliable access to clean water. This campaign is about people-to-people sharing: our families here supporting families in Tabanca Dana.

Who Is Behind the Project?
This initiative is led by PEEP–Policy Experimentation & Evaluation Platform, a Lisbon-based NGO for Development with 16 years of experience in education, entrepreneurship, and community-led development. PEEP is officially accredited by the Portuguese Foreign Office (Camões I.P.), and works across Lusophone Africa.

The technical implementation will be carried out by the Portuguese NGO, TESE–Associação para o Desenvolvimento, a trusted partner active on the ground in Guinea-Bissau.

Why This Matters
In Tabanca Dana, existing water sources are shallow and vulnerable:
During the rainy season, wells flood with unsafe water;
In the dry season, hand pumps often break or dry out;
Some families walk long distances to collect water — which is not always clean.

Despite this, the community is organized and engaged. The local teacher, youth, and village elders have worked together to plan the project and select the well sites.

Timeline: April–May 2026
Due to the rising water table during the rainy season, the ideal time for digging is April–May. This gives us time to fundraise and prepare, while involving students in the learning journey.

We plan to turn this into an educational moment within our school community — exploring water access, sustainability, and global responsibility. We’ll share photos and updates from the field so children can follow the progress.

What We're Asking:
We’re raising €5,000 for Phase 1, which will cover all materials and all labor for well construction. If we exceed our goal, Phase 2 will support sanitation infrastructure (latrines and basic wastewater treatment). Importantly, the project includes local supervision, monitoring and maintenance follow up.
