Did you know that people who give the most are often those who are without? Without their own support or without a wealth of funds. Did you know that those most deserving of help often don't ask for it? Susan (Susie) Beltran is most giving and deserving, but is afraid to ask for help which is why I've created this page for her and her family. My name is Anh Huynh and I met Susie through my local breastfeeding support group I organize. She's been doing pro bono work for the community, including my support group, for years. It takes a village to raise and support growing families. Now this village leader needs our support and help!
Here's what's going on with Susie and why she needs our help!
"On the morning of February 11th, our family experienced something no one would ever want to go through, or should have to go through. My son stepped into the shower in the home we’ve been renting for the past three years when he noticed brown water rising from the drain. Within seconds, sewage began backing up from the toilet and sinks, filling the entire floor with foul-smelling wastewater and feces."
"The sewage quickly spread throughout the house. It flooded our boys’ bedrooms, soaking into their carpets, and then began pouring downstairs through the walls into the kitchen and entryway. The smell was overwhelming, and we were powerless to stop the continuous flow."
"With our landlord living in California and a three-hour time difference, we struggled to reach her immediately. My boyfriend, Alek, had to call off work—losing a high-paying scheduled job—to stay home and manage the emergency. An emergency plumber arrived hours later and determined the issue was caused by a buildup and improper plumbing design in the three-story home. After clearing the pipes, we were told it should improve over time."
"Because this was a hazardous sewage spill, a cleanup crew was hired to disinfect and assess the damage. They placed dehumidifiers and air purifiers in the home and recommended replacing all carpets that had come into contact with contaminated water. However, the landlord only approved replacing visibly wet areas, despite the health risks."
"Since the incident, the home has had a lingering moldy smell. We’ve missed additional work to allow inspectors and workers in and out, and instead of support, we’ve faced blame and constant stress. After three years of paying rent on time and taking care of the home, we are now being made to feel responsible for outdated plumbing and 30-year-old carpets."
"We’ve tried seeking legal help, but we don’t qualify for assistance. At this point, our priority is the health and safety of our three children. As this is an unexpected expense and our landlord is not cooperating- We are in need of at least $5,000 to secure a new rental home and move our family into a safe, clean environment."
Any support will help this family take the next step toward stability and peace of mind. Thank you for standing with Susie and her family during this difficult time!
