Susanette Blenman is our dear friend and worked as our children's babysitter for over a decade in New York City. Given her difficulty finding work and the hostility we all see in the streets, she has made the difficult decision to move out of NYC and return to Barbados.

This is an expensive journey, for she will need to pack all her belongings in a large container and have it shipped to Barbados. The cost of buying new household goods once she gets there is not feasible, because they are significantly more expensive in Barbados than in the US, often 1.5 to 2.5 times higher, due to import tariffs, high shipping costs, and minimal local competition.
