Help support Children & Veteran Charities.

Hello and thank you for your interest in my post. My name is Shawn Mahoney. I grew up and currently reside in NH. After graduating High School I enlisted in the United States Air Force, where I received training as a medic. I served six years of active duty and was stationed at Lakenheath AFB throughout my entire enlistment. In 2009, I was temporarily assigned duty in Balad, Iraq for security detail. Since my discharge from active duty, I have remained active in several causes and benefits for our wounded veterans. In 2021 I hiked the entire NE111 which is 115 mountains throughout New England. I accomplished this while raising funds for the wounded warrior project. The wounded warrior project benefits veterans injured during active duty and provides housing and benefits to those with the greatest need. I began my journey hiking with a 5-foot log held over my shoulder and named it “Larry.” Soon afterward, I was recognized as the guy that hikes with “Larry the log". Last year I hiked the entire Appalachian Trail with Larry. The trail was approximately 2,200 miles and took me 4 months to finish. I hiked to raise funds for wounded veterans and was able to raise $10,000 to allocate between Wounded Warriors and Mission 22.

This year I am hiking the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) which is approximately 2,653 miles. The PCT starts in Mexico and passes through the states of California, Oregon and Washington, ending on the US/Canada border. During this time, I will be supported on and off the trail with the food and items needed to keep me healthy enough to complete this. This time around I will also be supporting St. Judes Children's Hospital, This charity benefits the many children who face long-term sicknesses and diseases, St. Judes Children's research hospital opened in 1962 and has since changed the lives of thousands of children and families.

I am asking for your help in supporting these many families who have been affected and the veterans who struggle with physical and mental health issues every day. I will be donating all funds raised and will be dividing the proceeds equally between charities. No amount is too small or large. If you’ve read this far, I hope you are as motivated to help as I am. If you wish to follow my journey, check us out on @larry.the.log on Instagram.

Sincerely, Shawn.
