Our local IGA grocery store in Trenton, IL, has been a cornerstone of our community for years. Several years ago, a caring family took over ownership, continuing to provide essential services that so many of us rely on. Unfortunately, since the time of purchase, the new owners have faced severe financial hardship. Family health issues have taken a toll, and to make matters worse, two major storm-related power outages resulted in the loss of all refrigerated and frozen products. Insurance reimbursement did not come close to covering the losses, and now, after the most recent storm, the store is struggling to recover.
This is an older store in a small community, and many of our neighbors depend on it for their food needs. For some, especially older locals without transportation, the IGA is within walking distance and a lifeline for daily essentials. For others, it’s a place where many young people get their first job, making it a vital part of our community’s life cycle. The loss of this store would be a huge blow to Trenton, and we are at risk of losing a business that means so much to so many.
Funds raised will be used to restock the perishable foods lost due to the storms. If we are fortunate enough to receive additional support, those funds will go toward establishing a backup power generation system to help prevent future losses. Please help support this wonderful family business that our community depends on. This is what our country was built on—neighbors coming together in times of need. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us preserve a vital part of our community.
