After nearly nine years working at MTJ, what started as a one-ski-season plan to earn a few free flights turned into something much more meaningful. The real reward was never the travel perks—it was the people. Over nearly a decade, Trent has built lasting friendships, found purpose in teamwork, and become part of a family that makes even the longest shifts worth it.
Trent has also built a successful roofing company over the past fourteen years, runs a shaved ice stand with his wife, Deanna, and is active in the volleyball community locally and statewide in Colorado.
Most important to Trent and his family is their faith in Jesus Christ. Trent and his family attend a local church, Grace Community where they have found a loving and supportive church family. During times like this it is important to the Shrock family to know that they have a God that cares, provides, gives strength and heals according to His mercy.
Now, that same community is being called on to support him in a fight unlike anything he’s faced before.
Recently, Trent was diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft-tissue cancer. So rare, in fact, that he may be the only person in the entire U.S. airline industry with it. Because it’s so uncommon, proven treatment paths and specialists are limited, and the best care may mean traveling across the country to major cancer centers that handle rare sarcomas.
Despite the shock of this diagnosis, Trent remains strong, grounded, and determined.
“Right now, I actually feel healthier than I have in years—aside from an occasional pain in my shoulder,” he says. “I’m just trying to balance between bucket-list trips and trips to doctors.” That mix of humor, honesty, and grit sums up the spirit that everyone who knows him recognizes immediately.
Unfortunately, rare cancers come with rare challenges—emotionally, physically, and financially. Insurance only goes so far, and the costs of travel, lodging, and uncovered treatments add up quickly. This GoFundMe has been set up to help ease that burden and allow Trent to focus his energy where it matters most: healing.
How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
Travel & Lodging – Getting to and from specialized treatment centers that may be hundreds or even thousands of miles away.
Uncovered Medical Expenses – Including scans, biopsies, medications, and specialized consultations that insurance may only partially cover.
Lost Income – Covering basic living costs during times when he’s unable to work.
Alternative or Experimental Treatments – Exploring every possible option for beating this rare and unpredictable disease.
Everyday Needs – Reducing financial stress so he can focus fully on recovery.
Even small contributions make a meaningful difference. Every show of support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a message of encouragement—helps remind him that he’s not fighting this battle alone.
The Road Ahead
At this stage, Trent is meeting with doctors to determine the best path forward. Treatment for epithelioid sarcoma often involves surgery, radiation, and possibly chemotherapy or targeted therapies—but because it’s so rare, there’s no single standard approach. He’s committed to finding the best possible care and keeping a positive outlook along the way.
He’s also choosing to live fully through it all—to keep laughing, exploring, and connecting with the people who’ve made his life so rich. “The last nine years at MTJ have been incredible,” he says. “The people I’ve worked with have made my life better, and I’m so thankful for all of them.”
How You Can Help
If you’ve ever worked with Trent, traveled alongside him, or simply believe in the power of community, this is the moment to show it. Here’s how you can help:
1. Donate – Any amount, no matter how small, helps cover vital costs.
2. Share – Post this campaign on your social media and spread the word.
3. Reach Out – Messages of hope, encouragement, and stories of others who’ve faced sarcoma are deeply appreciated.
If you happen to know anyone who has battled epithelioid sarcoma—or any form of sarcoma—please reach out. Connecting with others who have walked this path could provide not only valuable information but also emotional strength.
Gratitude
Trent has spent years helping others, showing up with a smile, and being the kind of person who quietly makes everyone’s day better. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of this journey. Whether your support comes as a donation, a share, or simply a prayer, it matters deeply. Together, we can help Trent fight this rare cancer with the strength, hope, and community that have defined his life so far.
