Hi everyone,
My name is Tom, and I’m raising funds to support Kiota Kids, a small children’s centre near Mutuati, 10 hours north east of Nairobi, Kenya. The centre was founded and is being grown by my friends Haydn and Lindsey, alongside Kenyan staff and local community support.
Kiota Kids is still very young. It’s a Transitional home for kids who have been living on the street without food, family, or access to education. Kiota Kids sponsors each child in the centre to have their basic needs met and strives to offer these children the basics many of us grew up with: a safe place to sleep, regular meals, care, schooling, and a sense of belonging and direction.
This is small scale, community led work. There are no large organisations or overheads involved. Support goes directly to keeping the centre running day to day. There are 54 kids living in the centre aged between 5-18.
Right now the biggest need is funding the daily basics of school fees, food, water and social workers so that the home can continue to run steadily while plans for the future take shape.
What Your Support Makes Possible
$20 → 118 meals
$60 → All living costs for one child for one month
$200 → Education for one child for one year
$500 → Medical care for all children for one year
$1,000 → Clean water for everyone for six months
$2,000 → Salary for a house parent for one year
$5,000 → Food for all children for six months
$10,000 → Education for all children for one year
$37,500 → All centre running costs for one full year
Even small contributions stretch a long way here.

Why I’m Involved
The story of how Haydn and Lindsey started Kiota, and the way they show up for these kids, really impacted me. It’s honest work with a community approach I haven’t experienced before. When I travel there in March 2025, I’m going to learn and understand how each new day is experienced. We’ve talked about helping with some building work, like putting in a proper kitchen, and we have some wild ideas for a playground. But mostly, I’m going to spend time with the kids and get to know their world. Up until now, the centre has been supported mainly through the donations and help of their friends and family. I offered to contribute by doing some fundraising of my own.
I’ll share updates, what I learn, and where funds are going.
The Goal
This fundraiser focuses on the centre’s daily stability:
food, water, education, medical care, caretaking, and a safe home.
These are the foundations that allow the children to:
stay off the street
feel protected and cared for
and grow into adulthood with agency, confidence, and direction
