Hey everybody! Little story time.. As some of you already know, exactly a year ago I got the opportunity of a lifetime and got invited to join an amazing group of people to go to Buscalan to go celebrate Apo Whang Od’s 107th birthday, part-take in a music video and get tattooed by living legends. While those were all major highlights and dreams come true, I also had the privilege of giving haircuts to the boys and men of the village over a couple of days. One day as I was cutting, someone in the group pointed out how a boy was also giving haircuts behind me, and impressively only with big old Filipino shears (IYKYK). Not only was it just a haircut, but he was doing a skin fade as well! It was an amazing and inspiring sight to see. The next day as I had to wrap up my last cut, they asked if I could cut one more kid. Unfortunately I didn’t have any more time as we were prepping to leave the village, but they did ask if they could borrow my clippers to try them. When it was time to really leave, I was asked if I could leave my gear for them. With these being my everyday work tools, I couldn’t leave them but it did spark an idea and that’s why I’m here starting this Gofundme.
I’ve pieced together a package of barber supplies to send to the village for the existing barbers and for anyone else who wants to learn to cut~ but specifically fade. These 10 starter packs include:
-clippers
-trimmers
-foil shavers
-guards
-capes
-pack of combs
-clipper brushes
-neck dusters and brushes
I’ve planned it where these could be sent off and utilized but leave no trash behind in the long run.
I see so much potential in these barbers and want to help with the resources. I’m reaching out to everyone because I feel that it would be a nice gesture if it was a gift from the community. The goal of this fundraiser is $2,000 USD to cover materials and transport to the village. Transport from SF to Manila is already taken care of! Shoutout to my mom ❤️
I know these times aren’t the easiest but anything you’re able to contribute is welcome and very much appreciated! Thank you to everyone in advance! :)
