Help support the Badjao Tribe in the Philippines
Donation protected
My name is Clare Burtchaell and I am a music therapist. I trade as Echo Music Therapy and work in child and teenage mental health and with people with disabilities in Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford. However, this summer I will be volunteering with Serve in Solidarity.
I will be going to Cebu in the Philippines to provide music therapy to children from the Badjao Tribe. The Badjao Tribe are a marginalised community in South East Asia. They are a nomadic, sea-faring community. SERVE’s work with the Badjao tribe is focused on supporting educational initiatives, improving housing and access to healthcare.
This is an opportunity to provide music therapy to people who might not have the opportunity to attend otherwise. I am passionate about music therapy and have seen first hand how it can aid people. Music therapy promotes confidence and dignity by providing opportunities for initiation, choice making and success. It provides people with opportunities for non-verbal communication and self expression. It addresses psychological needs through exploration of emotions in a safe and contained environment. It helps mange anxiety with relaxation and mindfulness through music. It increases social interaction through meaningful group activity. It resources individuals with music tools for self regulation, coping and self care.
The money raised will go towards paying for my flights, accommodation etc. Thank you in advance for your contribution. It is really appreciated!
