Just one week ago, our family experienced an unthinkable tragedy. Our dad, Matthias Mederer,

was in a horrific fatal accident. After on life support for 5 days, he succumbed to his injuries on

7/25/25. We are super devastated, and still in shock because his passing was just so very

sudden.

This gofundme page was created because my sister and I, at only 22 and 24 are now facing the

heavy burden of funeral expenses. Our dad didn’t have a wife or significant other, so we are the

ones organizing everything and truly every little bit counts. Every dollar raised will help cover his

funeral, candlelight vigil, celebration of life and memorial expenses. As well as honoring his wishes, going to Germany to put his headstone with his family plot. His headstone he wrote for himself reads, once translated to English “He refuses to grow up, and from the looks of it got away with it”

Matthias loved to fly glider planes, make and play music, drive his BMW car and his Yamaha R1

motorcycle, joke around and be silly and happy.. Anybody who knew Matthias knew he was the

kid who never grew up.. He was 64 goin on 24..He was so kind, honest, and truly one of a kind.

He lived each day the fullest, making the most out of everything. Most of all, Matthias loved his

kids, Eva and Zoe and his grandkid Zakai. Matthias was the most kind-hearted, giving and

selfless man you’d ever meet. He was the absolute best Papa and Grandpa ever. Matthias is a

man of many talents and one of his many specialties is him being a “Macgyver” handyman type-

he can fix just about any and everything..from building our bunk beds when we were kids, to

building many guitar amps, to building his autistic grandson a specialized spinning toy - if you

could think it Matthias could build it. He was also self-taught in many ways, he taught himself

how to speak, read and write English solely just from listening to music and from friends he’d

met along the way…At only 10, he taught himself how to play guitar by ear, and though he

never learned how to read music Matthias was one of the most exceptionally talented guitarists

you’d ever meet. He would always say he was “German born on accident” and would explain

that his love for blues and rock and roll was the sole reason he came to the USA. So at only 20,

with 5$ in his pocket and his guitar, he immigrated to the US. First arriving in New York City in

1981, he quickly realized that what was once his dream in small town Germany- became a

reality. Matthias played on the NYC street corners, many times attracting large crowds of

hundreds of people.. This is when he realized how talented he really was. Only a few years

later, he hitchhiked from NY to CA and built his life here in San Francisco and went on to do

many great things. He continued to play guitar, make music, fly planes, opened up a recording

studio, fathered and raised 2 beautiful daughters… Matthias, you are a legend you will forever

live on through your music and flying videos and you will never be forgotten. You will be missed So much forever Papa✈️❤️We love you always..
