Hi, my name is Luiza, and I'm trying to raise money for my sister and her four children during an incredibly difficult time.
On June 5, my brother-in-law, Gordo, was detained by ICE. He came to this country when he was 13 years old. He and my sister have been together for 14 years and married for 8. Now my sister has been left alone with their four young children, and we don't know what is going to happen next.
My sister is a stay-at-home mom, and her whole world is her kids. She has dedicated her life to raising her children. Now she is carrying the emotional, financial, and physical weight of caring for them alone.
Their children are Matthew, Juli, Noah, and Sebastian (Carlitos).
Just a week before his dad was detained, Matthew was diagnosed with autism. He is the sweetest and smartest little boy and absolutely loves animals. My sister and Gordo have always done everything they can to help him and make sure he has all the support he needs.
Juli is 4 years old and the only girl. She loves to dance, dress up, and play with her glitter dumplings. Every day she asks about her dad. Before he was taken, he promised he would bring her back glitter dumplings, and she is still waiting for him to come home.
Noah is 2 years old and has the biggest personality. He's the kind of kid who makes friends with everyone at the playground and always keeps everyone laughing.
Sebastian, who we call Carlitos, is only 9 months old. He is always smiling, laughing, and exploring everything around him. He loves being outside and looking at nature.
The hardest part has been watching the kids miss their dad. Gordo was the one who put them to bed every night. He read them books, tucked them in, and made sure they knew they were loved. Now there is an empty spot where he should be, and four little kids who don't understand why he isn't home.
If you know Gordo, you know the kind of person he is. He is selfless. He is the first person to help anyone who needs it. If someone needed a ride, help translating, advice, or anything at all, he was there. He would drop what he was doing to help somebody else. And he never expected anything in return.
I met Gordo when I was young, and he became the brother I never had. Through every stage of my life, he has been one of my biggest supporters and protectors. Whenever I faced a problem, he was the first person I called. He treated me like his little sister and always made sure I was okay. The thought of him being taken away breaks my heart for him and my sister.
My sister is just as giving. She went to Belmar Elementary School and graduated from Manasquan High School. Today, her own children attend Belmar Elementary, and she often helps translate for families who don't speak English. She is always helping other people, which makes it even harder to see her going through this.
Right now, we don't know what will happen next. The uncertainty is overwhelming for my sister. While my parents are helping as much as they can, the financial burden is enormous. There are bills to pay, groceries to buy, children to care for, and legal expenses that continue to grow.
Anyone who knows my sister and Gordo knows that their greatest accomplishment has always been being amazing parents. Their kids are their whole world.
If you can donate, no matter how small the amount, it would mean so much to our family. If you can't donate, sharing this fundraiser would help more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story, for your prayers, and for any support you can give. We are holding onto hope and praying that my babies can have their dad home again.
Every donation, share, and kind word reminds my sister that she is not facing this alone.
