Help Support My Homegoing Trip to Care for My Grandparents
Donation protected
peace everyone,
i’m reaching out to my community for support in funding a two-week trip to Lima, Peru, where I plan to provide caregiving and emotional support to my paternal grandparents by the end of may. my grandfather is in the end of life process, having been hospitalized twice with pneumonia in the past few months. he lives with dementia and parkinson’s, and while he receives help from my 90-year-old grandmother, a visiting in-home nurse, and our family doctor, he currently has no one else nearby to provide in-person support from family.
this trip feels essential for me—both as someone who was unable to be present for previous family members' end-of-life transitions when i was younger due to financial and border-related barriers, and as an apprenticing end-of-life worker. my father and other family members, who are green-card holders or naturalized citizens, are making the painful decision not to visit at this time due to the risks posed by the current administration. i’ve always struggled with asking for help, as i know many of us have. but at my core i believe in leaning on community, especially in times of fear and uncertainty, and i also know how important it feels for me to be present with my grandparents in this process.
my goal is to raise $2,835, which will cover:
- last minute roundtrip flight to Lima, Peru
- transportation costs within Peru
- basic living expenses while I am there supporting my grandparents
- remaining funds will be used to cover the income i’ll miss while on this trip (I’m an hourly worker). this will help me return home without the financial strain of unpaid time off, allowing me to focus on supporting my family without the added pressure of work when I return.
thank you for taking the time to read my story. if you’re unable to donate, i’m still appreciative of your consideration and for sharing this fundraiser with people in your life. i kindly ask that you not share this fundraiser on public social media (like Instagram), but feel free to share it privately through text, email, or other direct means.
with deep gratitude,
ari
