Hi all, my name is Ella, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for support for my beloved granddad, Axel. He has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Despite the challenges ahead, we know he has so much life left to live, and we are determined to make sure he has every opportunity to fight this battle and spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.

Why We Need Your Help

My family has already been doing everything we can to support him, but with the costs of his ongoing treatment, finding a place for him to stay close to the hospital while undergoing chemotherapy, and transportation costs, the bills are racking up to more than we can manage. My mom has been supporting our entire family, including my younger siblings, alone for the past 4 years which has already been tough. I want to relieve some of this financial stress so my family can have a bit less to be worried about.

My granddad, along with my grandmother, helped raise me. I spent most of my life living with them, and they’ve been a source of love, guidance, and stability for me and our entire family. They are the kind of people who would never ask for help, always giving of themselves with no expectation in return, in fact I know that if they knew I was doing this I would be in loads of trouble.

Our hope is to raise enough funds to cover the financial strain of his treatment and give him the opportunity to return home to Australia once he is a bit better —where he can reconnect with family, continue his treatments, and live the life he deserves without the constant pressure of financial stress. We know this is a big ask, but we truly believe in the power of community and the kindness of others.

About my Granddad

My granddad is everything to me and our family—he’s the most thoughtful, and selfless person you could ever meet. He’s always been the one to shoulder every burden, quietly supporting all of us in ways big and small. He didn’t just help raise me; he helped raise my younger brother and sister, always putting family first. His strength, both physical and mental, has been a constant inspiration. I can’t even imagine life without him. He has taught me so much, and I have so much to still learn from him. He is just a cool fucking guy, he writes a blog on climate change that I will link too if interested... on another note I have to mention his and my grandma's marriage as it is something I deeply admire. They’ve been married happily since he was 21, and their bond is something you don't get to see too often. Growing up watching their love has been beautiful and has shaped so much of my own understanding of what partnership can be. I remember asking my mom a few years ago why she thought they’ve stayed together through all of life’s ups and downs, especially when so many couples don’t. She told me that, growing up, she always noticed how, no matter where they were—whether on a quick trip to the store or a long road trip—my granddad and grandma would always be in the front seat, talking the entire time. They would discuss everything under the sun, constantly learning from one another, whether it was something they’d just read or heard in the news, or even just sharing little thoughts on the mundane. Those hours of conversation, where they both grew and shared, were a cornerstone of their bond.

I love him so much, and what’s happening now has been all-consuming and heartbreaking for all of us. I just wish I could introduce you all to him so you could see, for yourselves, how special of a man he truly is...
