Help Support Maya’s Recovery from Surgery Injury
Donation protected
Life can be unpredictable and that it can turn upside down in a minute. Our daughter was born perfectly beautiful and fine but with murmur in her heart. 1 month later she was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) a hole in the heart, which was large and causing her heart to fail. To repair her heart, she went for open heart surgery at Rady’s Children’s San Diego on April 4th.
Maya’s heart surgery was success but she got injured in the operating room during nasogastric (feeding) tube application. The hole in her oesophagus doesn’t allow our baby to eat at all for already 10 days and now they need to wait another week to repeat the study. She has to stay at ICU to be fed intravenously and receive antibiotic to fight the danger of infection. Ideally the doctors want it to heal on its own instead of having invasive surgery, which is an option but right now is the last option. They want to attempt to place another feeding tube AGAIN or G-tube and send us home like that until it maybe heals on its own.
Maya is constantly feeling hunger, pain from the inflammation and not able to sleep around the clock. Me, her mom, staying by her bedside while using PTO from work. Its been 10 days and we are not going home any time soon it seems like. I’m worried about my child’s health and safety and looking into second opinion at other hospitals.
We are asking for your help and support to cover out of pocket expenses and costs of the second opinion, possible transfer to another hospital, hospital stay, as well as procedures and specialists she needs to recover and be able to eat on her own and be a happy baby again.
Legal advice would be helpful too.
I hope to continue this campaign until the most positive news can be shared.
Excess of funds will be shared with other children in similar needs.
