Madelyn is my bright, bold, hilarious 4-year-old niece who lights up every room she walks into. Whether she’s singing Disney princess songs at full volume or charming every adult in sight, her huge personality and kind heart make her unforgettable. Last week, her parents, Brian and Kelly, received news no family ever wants to hear: Madelyn has B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL).

She began chemotherapy this week and will undergo an intense 9-month treatment phase, followed by potentially years of ongoing care. Her immune system will be extremely fragile during this time, and she'll be unable to attend preschool or participate in the activities she loves. Brian and Kelly are shifting their lives entirely to support her around-the-clock—including regular chemo, clinic visits, now and future hospital stays, and managing the toll this takes on their entire family.
