Help Support Luca During His Battle with Leukemia
Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,
Our beloved son, Luca, just 16 years old, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia (blood cancer) while visiting family in Florida. This unexpected and devastating news has completely turned our world upside down.
Luca was taken to the ER then transported to the pediatric ICU at Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital in critical condition. He was given several blood transfusions, bipap ventilation, breathing treatments, iv fluids, iv nutrition, steroids, antibiotics, antinausea meds, diuretics, etc.
Luca’s type of Leukemia is B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL). B-ALL is the most common type of Leukemia, which fortunately has a great success rate for its treatment. The next procedures Luca will have are a bone marrow biopsy, lumbar spinal puncture, and then Luca will begin his chemotherapy treatment. His chemo treatment will be delivered in 3 phases. During the critical first phase of chemo, Luca will have to stay in-patient here at Johns Hopkins in St. Petersburg for approximately 1 month. Our hope is we will be able to transport him back home to Maryland after phase 1. Phase 2 of chemo will be 6-8 months and the most aggressive. This is when is Luca will experience more severe side effects. Phase 3 will be 1.5 years of maintenance chemo to completely rid of the cancer cells. In total, he will have at least 2.5 years of chemotherapy.
Luca is a fighter and with the amazing care he has received, has made a lot of progress in the last couple of days. Luca is now more stable, has been moved out of the ICU and to the Oncology Hematology unit.
Luca has been very strong, brave, and mature with his diagnosis. Luca has agreed to allow the doctors to take additional samples from him for research to help other children. We could not be more proud of him!
As his parents, we are making every effort to stay here by his side. As you can imagine, being away from home and work during this time is incredibly challenging.
We are reaching out to ask for support during this difficult time. Any donation, no matter how small, will help go towards the costs of staying in Florida so we can be with Luca throughout his treatment. Your generosity will also help us manage the financial strain of missed work and ongoing bills back home so Luca has a comfortable place to return to once transported back to Maryland. With your help, we can ensure that he has his family by his side to give love and support as he fights his battle.
We are deeply grateful for any support you can offer, whether it’s a donation, a share of this campaign, or keeping Luca in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Lindsey & Bella Josh & Jamie
