Earlier this week, we lost our grandpa after a long battle with cancer. During his final years, especially the past several months, my sister Kristen was his primary caretaker. She took him to all his appointments, cared for him after his sugeries, gave him his food and medications, and learned countless new skills with each new medical need. Taking time out of her life and work to care for him was no easy task, but she took a lot of pride in ensuring he was comfortable at home, where he wanted to be the most.

With his passing, Kristen not only lost someone she loved, but also lost the stability they had by living together. They had been supporting each other both emotionally and financially, and depended on our grandfather's income to help afford the aparmtent they shared.

This sudden change has left our family in a difficult financial position. Unfortunately, Kristen is unable to afford the rent on her wages alone, and now needs to break her lease in order to move out of the apartment and into our house so she can get back on her feet.

She contacted the leasing office and they informed us that to break the lease, she first needs to pay two months of the base rent upfront, and then also pay rent for the 60 days following the notice.

This breaks down to:

* 2 months base rent upfront: $2,960

* 2 remaining months rent + fees: $3,110

We’ve been very fortunate to already have the 2 months base rent covered, so Kristen is able to start the process by giving her 60-day notice immediately. However, between already working reduced hours to care for our grandfather, losing his income after his passing, and taking time off of work for a personal medical emergency, she needs help covering the last two months.

If possible, we would also appreciate any help toward covering her bills for the next two months while she works to catch up. In total, her bills come to be around $1,200.

* Electric Bill x2 : $200
