Who is John...
Hello! My name is Laura and I am one of the student managers at Crossroads Cafe, the only student run cafe at Middlebury College. One of the highlights of working at Crossroads has been the absolute joy of sharing our space with John and Acai (and Seng!), the sushi chefs who work so hard to provide all of the sushi for our campus. For anyone who doesn't know John and his family, they are the most generous, humble, positive and friendly faces that I have ever had the honor of knowing. John and Seng were the dynamic duo until they had a baby most recently, at which point Seng's sister, Acai, stepped in to help (their beautiful baby boy has a full head of hair and a bright future ahead of him!) They never hesitate to offer the baristas a quick bite or two after a busy rush and always go above and beyond to make our lives easier. They give and give without expecting anything in return, and there are truly not enough words to describe how deep and wide their love is for anyone who has crossed paths with them.
The situation...
Unfortunately, with the rise of COVID-19, the sudden evacuation of the entire student body, and the administration's mandate to cease retail and food operations on campus, John and his family are left indefinitely unemployed with a baby at home to take care of. His rent alone is around $1000 per month, but I'm absolutely certain that they will need all the help they can get for groceries, gas, bills, and future rent payments for as long as this pandemic is affecting the community.
In conclusion...
I want to emphasize that in the short time that I've known John, he has been nothing but a light in everyone's life who never fails to offer anything and everything that he has. He is the first to lend a helping hand in any way that he can, so this is the least that I can think to do to give back to him and his family. No amount is too much or too little: knowing John, he will appreciate even the thought that you had to read this fundraiser.
