Hi. My name is Hayleigh Smith, and I am a Life Scout with Troop 6226 in Edmond, Oklahoma. I am working to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in Scouts BSA. To reach this goal, I need to complete my Eagle Scout Service Project by developing and leading a project to benefit my community.
For my project, I am building a Doggy Dig Zone for dogs at Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. Free to Live Animal Sanctuary is the largest no-kill animal shelter in Oklahoma, and houses about 150 dogs and 150 cats. The dogs live in kennels with concrete flooring and are given time each day in a huge, fenced yard for play. The Doggy Dig Zone will provide a place for the dogs to dig safely for enrichment. By creating a 12 ft x 12 ft box filled with loose soil, dogs will be able to dig safely and avoid hurting their paws in the existing Oklahoma clay soil. The project will span a few days and involves building a frame for the soil, along with a ramp for entry for older dogs. With a team of family and friends, we will move 7 tons of soil into the area for their enrichment! The digging zone will have a removable cover to keep wild animals out of the box at night.
I would appreciate any help in raising the $1,500 that is needed for the materials and hardware for my Eagle Scout Project. Together, with your help, we can provide a more safe and enriching play area for the dogs.
Thank you very much!
Hayleigh Smith
