Help Support Concepción and Her Family!
Donation protected
UPDATE: We are devastated to share that Concepción passed away on March 31, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. Concepción was a beautiful person who was the heart of her tight-knit family. We as a community deeply mourn her passing and celebrate her life. It is particularly cruel that this virus--which knows no borders--has so impacted Concepción and her family, who have already gone through so much as a result of the injustices of our immigration system. This GoFundMe will now also be used to cover funeral and related expenses as Concepción’s family navigates this difficult time. Please join us in showing love and support for Concepción’s family by donating and sharing this campaign widely. Every little bit helps.

Concepción is a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother from Brooklyn who is currently hospitalized in the ICU during the coronavirus crisis. Concepción and her husband have already been facing immense hardship after they were abruptly taken into ICE custody and put into deportation proceedings on July 4th, 2018, while going to visit their family serving in the military on Fort Drum Army Base in upstate New York. Since then, they have been fighting to remain with their children and grandchildren in Brooklyn--the community they call home--with the support of the NYU Immigrants Rights Clinic. Their family has also become leading voices in the immigrant rights movement, and NYU Law Immigrant Rights Project hopes to support their continued advocacy in this struggle.
We are seeking to support this beloved family as they battle health and immigration challenges, job loss, and the emotional toll that this situation has taken on them. Please join us as part of a community that stands with those impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, including those who are doubly impacted by underlying health concerns and our inhumane immigration system.

How the funds will be spent (being as specific as possible): Funds from this campaign will be used to cover funeral and medical expenses, plus day-to-day support to help the family cover basic necessities like groceries, housing, and other bills during this difficult time.
The withdrawal plan to get funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiaries: The funds will be sent directly to the family.
The NYU Law Immigrant Rights Project is a group of law students committed to the rights of all non-citizens. We partner with community based organizations to connect law students to their programs, and we work to actively support the clients of the Immigrant Rights Clinic.
