Last week, our family experienced an unimaginable loss. My dad, Sean, passed away on July 7th at just 58 years old after fighting—and bravely losing—his third battle with cancer. He was the love of my mom Christy’s life, her best friend, and her whole world.
Sean’s decline in health happened heartbreakingly fast. In November, he was let go from his long-term job due to the progression of his illness. Though he was approved for disability, as many know, there’s a mandatory 6-month waiting period before benefits begin. He received his very first disability payment on June 25th… and passed away just 12 days later.
Because of his illness and diagnosis, Sean was no longer eligible for life insurance coverage. He wanted to take care of my mom even after he was gone, but cancer took away that ability, too. Now, she’s left grieving the love of her life while facing the harsh reality of mounting expenses—funeral costs, household bills, and trying to make ends meet without him.
She will be able to apply for widow’s benefits once the death certificate is officially filed with the court, but even that won’t be enough to cover everything. The truth is: she needs help.
My mom has always been the one to give—quietly, generously, and without ever asking for anything in return. But now, I’m asking for her.
If you can donate—even just a little—it will mean the world to our family. Every dollar helps lift a little of the weight she’s carrying so she can begin to heal and adjust to this painful new chapter.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of this community of support. Please share if you’re able.
