Due to the government shutdown, CalFresh/SNAP benefits will be delayed in November. Families may struggle to afford food, and our small family farms could lose a significant portion of sales. A large percentage of our shoppers rely on SNAP benefits and the Market Match program, offered by our partners at Center for Healthy Communities. This delay also directly affects our vendors. SNAP + Market Match make up as much as 30% of total income for some of our farmers.
The Chico Certified Farmers Market is raising money to help our EBT customers have access to the freshest food available at our farmers' market. All donations will be distributed to our EBT customers at the market, in the form of Market Bucks, so that they can continue to purchase quality local produce and goods and in turn, will help support our farmers who may be taking a financial hit due to the loss of EBT and Market Match during this time.
We also have a donation table set up at the Saturday Farmers Market to collect any food that you would like to donate. Thank you for your support in helping keep our community healthy during this time.
