Help Support Beloved Children Musician's Road to Recovery

Dear friends, family, and members of the community,

I am writing this on behalf of my mom, Susan Meyer, and step-dad, Jack Powell. Many of you know Jack as RiverJack Z or Jack Zucchini, a beloved children’s musician and guitarist/singer of the local band The Zucchini Brothers. On 9/14, Jack suffered a stroke while performing on stage. Jack has brought joy, inspiration, and decades of happy memories to not only our family, but families all around the capital area and beyond. He has dedicated his life to enriching the lives of children of all ages through music. In recent years, he’s also been sending ripples of joy and grateful living to the world through his YouTube channel, A Jack Out of the Box. Even off-stage and off-camera, almost everyone who knows him has a “Jack story” to tell (including many humorous ones) of his genuine and down-to-earth kindness and compassion. He is honestly one of the kindest, most loving people you could ever meet. If you ever feel the world is short on goodness, you’ll be reassured and uplifted by watching his YouTube videos that focus on finding joy in simple pleasures.

Jack has been left unable to perform, which is a major source of happiness for him and also his only source of income. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him, as he navigates significant medical and cognitive challenges, including his ability to “understand stuff” (as he puts it). Not only are we absolutely heartbroken, but this has put considerable financial stress on him and my mom, who is a meditation teacher and photographer who has been a guiding light for many seeking peace and mindfulness through challenging times. As a result of Jack’s health crisis, their income has been reduced dramatically.

Bills are already beginning to pile up and my mom and step-dad only anticipate more to come as he transitions to a rehabilitation facility for an undetermined amount of time.

Throughout all of this, the stress of financial strain should be the last thing they have to worry about while they adjust to the lifestyle changes this will cause for them. Your contributions will help cover essential living expenses, medical bills, and therapy costs; allowing them to concentrate on recovery without the weight of financial burden. Any amount you can give will make a significant difference, no matter how big or small. With your help, we can help them navigate this challenging chapter and continue doing what they love: spreading peace, love, and lots of joy around the world.
