My name is Julia Di Toro and I am an aspiring Eagle Scout based out of Troop 777 G in Manhattan. To achieve my goal, I must conduct a service project that benefits my community. I have chosen to partner with the non-profit Hudson Guild and work alongside the Amsterdam Center, one of the branches of Hudson Guild. The Amsterdam Center is an early childhood program that supports the development of kids, ages 3-5, and uplifts the Upper West Side Community.

The first part of my project involves renovating one of the classroom libraries in the Amsterdam Center. My team and I are going to touch up the paint in the corner, add wall stickers to make it a welcoming space for the kids, add a rug to the space, set up bean bags for the kids to read on, and build a rocking chair for teachers to use when reading to the class.

The second part of my project involves building two bookshelves with wheels so the teachers will be able to move the books from classroom to classroom. I am going to fill the first bookshelf with books in English, and the second one will be filled with books in Spanish and French. This will support all the bilingual kids that the Amsterdam Center serves. With the help of my team, we will use colored stickers to categorize the books. The books will then be placed in bins on the movable bookshelf. To ensure that the books are well kept, I am going to add cabinet doors to the bookshelf.

An additional component of my project is the drive I am going to hold to replenish the Amsterdam Center's supplies of glue and easel paper, alongside the book drive to fill the bookshelves.
