Hi my name is Matt and I’m fundraising on behalf of my best friend Abdou and his family from Gambia. Abdou and his siblings are currently suffering from an extremely urgent situation because of the passing of their parents, which forced Abdou to take on the extremely difficult task of being the only care taker of four children. Abdou wrote the following quote to explain his situation more thoroughly:

“My name is Abdou, and I am reaching out with a heart full of hope, strength, and a humble plea for help. Life has placed heavy challenges on my path, and I have had to grow strong through pain. After losing my parents, I became responsible for my four younger siblings, who are my entire world and the reason I keep moving forward every day.

Since that heartbreaking loss, life has forced me to make painful sacrifices. I had to leave school so I could focus on keeping my siblings safe, fed, and sheltered. Every day is a struggle to make sure they have even the most basic necessities, but I do everything in my power to protect and care for them.

There have been days when we did not have enough to eat, and moments when I watched my youngest sibling fall sick due to hunger and poor living conditions due to the lack of financial support caused by the passing of our Mother and Father. Seeing my siblings suffer is the hardest pain I have ever known.

It is those moments that pushed me to reach out—not because I want to beg, but because I still believe in human kindness and compassion.

I have turned to neighbors and kind-hearted people when I could, and sometimes their help has been what kept us going. But there are also times when we have nowhere left to turn. That is why I am sharing our story today, hoping it reaches someone who can help change our situation, even in a small way.

We are not asking for luxury or comfort—only a chance at a better life. A chance for my siblings to go to school, to eat without fear, and to sleep under a safe roof. Any support, whether a donation, a kind message, or simply sharing our story, means more to us than words can express.
