I am currently living and teaching English in a small rural village called Padampokhari, located in Chitwan Nepal, I’ve already witnessed both the incredible spirit of the community and the very real challenges they face every day. I am working directly with an employee of the Himshikhara Sociocultural Society to ensure all funds are managed responsibly and reach the children and parts of the school that need it most.

The school I am working at is called Everest Academy. The children come to school eager to learn, full of curiosity and kindness, but the school itself struggles to provide even the most basic necessities for the children. The school needs things such as whiteboards, markers, coloured pencils, notebooks, pens, textbooks, reading books, warm clothes in winter, a playground, safe classroom spaces, and play activities for the kids such as soccer balls, skipping ropes, fans for the classrooms during summer, new carpets and much more.

Since COVID-19, many families in this village have been facing severe financial hardship. The pandemic disrupted local work, reduced incomes and left many parents struggling to afford basic essentials such as food and clean drinking water. Because of this, education has become a luxury that many can no longer afford.

A year worth of private schooling in this village costs $500 which includes expenses such as uniforms, books and textbooks. It costs less to send a kid to a Government school.

Even a small scholarship can completely change the trajectory of a child’s life here.

I am starting this fundraiser to:

• Provide essential school supplies (whiteboards, pens, textbooks, hygiene items and all things and more listed above)

• Support classroom improvements so students can learn in safe, encouraging spaces

• Offer scholarships ($500 a year) to students who lack the financial means to continue their education

• Support the wider village with basic necessities that directly impact children’s ability to learn

Every single contribution—no matter the amount—has a huge impact here. A few dollars can buy notebooks for an entire class. A small donation can keep a student in school for another term. And together, we can help give these children the opportunities they absolutely deserve.
