Help Support a Black Birth Worker (Doula)

We are writing on behalf of a Black doula who is currently in pre-term labor and is now on bedrest. This doula has served our DMV community, including many Black families in the area for over 7 years.

This doula needs to pass off her current contracted clients and pay several backup doulas. She will incur personal medical bills and other unexpected costs of having a preemie, not to mention the physical and emotional stress of her situation.

Doulas are self employed, and she has no paid leave, no PTO, or other benefits, to take care of herself, her baby, and her other children, as her husband transitions jobs.

Black women are 50% more likely than white women to go into preterm labor in the US due to the disparity caused by systemic racism. Read more --

We are hoping as a community, that we can offer mutual aid and support to minimize her stress as she welcomes her sweet baby, and recovers with ease. Send this doula some love.
