Our worker had worked at a London english language school for over 18 years. She had trained most of her colleagues in teaching english as a second languge, and had written a number of revision resources and workbooks for students.
At the end of last September, she was informed that at the beginning of next month she would be transferred to a new contract with reduced hours and pay. We beleive that this constitutes a fire and hire and are fighting to get her the redundancy pay that she was owed when her old contract was terminated.
Since then, the case has constinued to escalate, and the worker has resigned. We beleive that she was forced out of work by the abusive and bullying behaviour of her managers as this case developed. Now that she has resigned, her managers are refusing to pay her for the holiday days she had accrued, we beleive that this constitutes wage theft, and will be going to court against the college to support her.
Twice now, the worker has issued grievance complaints against her employer, only for the employer to refuse grievance meetings or add what we beleive to be unreasonable strings before a grievance meeting will be held. They have sent the worker threats of legal action, demanded she pay their legal fees. Meanwhile, the worker is unable to pay her bills, having struggled for months on unlivable wages and now having been repeatedly deined the compenstation she beleives she is entitled to, first from her original contract, and now from the pay on her resignation.
Every penny put into this fundraiser will go to supporting our worker as she continues to fight for her rights.
