Help Super Lane & Mom Keep Their Home

I never imagined that after spending the last two years fighting for Lane’s life, I would now be begging for help to keep the roof of our home over our heads. Some of you know my son, Lane who is three years old. He has endured four brain surgeries, including an anatomical hemispherectomy, where half of his brain was removed to help give him a better life from refractory epilepsy, specifically Infantile Spasms and a Lennox Gastaut Syndrome diagnosis. Last year, we spent seven months living in hospital rooms at UCLA and rehabilitation at CHLA while we watched our sweet, brave Super Lane fight for his recovery over and over again. We are home now, but he lives with life changing mobility hurdles and requires around-the-clock care to keep him safe. When we finally came home, this house became the place where Lane could finally begin to heal. It is where he learned to smile and WALK again after each surgery. Where his seizures became more controlled. Where he is safe in his medical bed to sleep. Every part of this home has been adapted for his needs — his medical bed, his wheelchair access ramp out front, even the blue curb the city painted for him. Today I was told the house we rent is being sold by the end of the year and I will be given an opportunity to purchase it when they list it. And I am terrified of losing it. I cannot explain the heartbreak of knowing that after everything my son has survived, we could lose the stable, consistent space, medically supportive home that has carried us through the darkest chapter of our lives and shown us the brightest light and hope. Because of Lane’s medical needs, I had to leave the career I once worked so hard to build in order to become his full-time caregiver. I have applied for affordable housing, but the waitlists are four to six years long, and there are no immediate options for families caring for severely medically complex children in Santa Barbara. I am exhausted. I am scared. And I am asking for help. We are trying to raise enough money to purchase the home we are already living in so Lane can remain in the environment that supports his health, therapies, safety, and healing. Plus his father lives in the same neighborhood allowing for Lane to receive the most support. If you can donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you cannot, please share our story. Right now, sharing may be what saves our home. After fighting so hard medically each day, I am begging for help to keep him safe, stable, and in our home.
