In October of 2019, on the way back to Kathmandu from a Dasai/Diwali celebration, a bus accident occurred. 3 were killed, 46 people were injured. Among those injured, was Sunita Tamang, Sunita suffered severe damage to her L1 vertebrae and needed emergency surgery to prevent serious long term complications.

With generous donations from kind people, she was able to have the surgery in November of 2019, which included putting pins and rods in to stabilize her back and along with a brace she was able to return to school to continue her education and a more normal way of life .

As of 2022, her doctor now has given her the recommendation to have the pins and rods from surgery removed to improve her quality of life, now and in the future. She is young and has a long and full life ahead of her, so it is important for her to have this second surgery.
