Sonam (nephew) and Dawa (brother) suffered minor injuries relative to Sunita and Shangmo (nieces). Shangmo suffered a broken shoulder and facial abrasions, while Sunita has suffered severe damage to her L1 vertebrae and needs emergency surgery to prevent serious long term complications.
Uttam and Budu have been helping to support these children. Sunita's only care taker, her father, passed away from an illness when she was a child. Shangmo and Sonam live with Sunita in an apartment in Kathmandu so they can have the opportunity to go to school. The village that they are from does not offer education past a fifth grade level. Uttam and Budu support them financially to ensure their access to education.
The Tamang family is in need of assistance to pay for the surgery.
In Nepal, health insurance does not exist so the cost of any medical emergencies falls completely on the injured and the family. Often, medical care is not provided unless the family has cash upfront.
Any amount you can spare will greatly assist this family to save Sunita from serious medical complications due to lack of medical care.
