Help Stu and Becki face terminal illness

This fundraiser is being created on behalf of my darling friends Stuart and Becki McEvilly-Rendell and their beautiful 4 year old boy Faelan.

For 3 years Becki has sought treatment and support for an ever-larger list of chronic, degenerative symptoms resulting in her living in constant pain, confusion and fear. A few weeks before Christmas 2021, Becki was admitted to Werribee hospital for further investigation of her symptoms. Within a couple of weeks Becki had lost the ability to speak, to feed herself, all her fine and gross motor skills and she began to lose her sight. Her body’s natural systems and processes appear to be shutting down which has seen Becki spend time in ICU to stabilise and preserve her life. 

After three and a half weeks of tests and no further clarity on the cause of her rapidly declining health, she was eventually transferred to a specialist neurology ward in Melbourne, where doctors have diagnosed the likely cause as early onset Alzheimer's, pending further genetic testing. 

Becki is a beautiful, young, outgoing and generous woman who lead a thriving, happy life. She turned just 40 years old three weeks ago. She is now unable to communicate or recognise her loved ones. Due to the pace of her decline, Becki’s family have been told they need to see her before it is too late. 

  

Stu was unable to see Becki for the first 3 and a half weeks due to hospital protocols and Covid protections. Since early January he has been visiting her once a day, and covid protocols continue to make this challenging. Their son Faelan has not seen his darling mummy since she was admitted to hospital at the beginning of December. At this rate, due to her condition, it is unlikely he will ever see her again.

 

Becki is from the UK and Stu is from New Zealand, and neither has family living here in Victoria. Stu has little support, no respite and no immediate family to lean on. Given Becki’s rapid, devastating decline Stu needs to be able stop work so he can tend and care for Becki, nurture his son and shepherd his little family through this unspeakable, finite time.

 

Becki's family are travelling to Victoria to be with her in the time that remains; Stu’s father is travelling to be with him too, but time is running out.

Please help raise funds so that Stu can spend every available moment with his little family and make the best decisions possible for Becki, for himself and for their little boy.

 

Your support in allowing Stu to stop work will ensure that Becki receives all the tenderness, love and care she deserves… If Stu can be with his wife as much as possible on this journey, I know it will enable him to muster all the resolve and resilience necessary, to manage the days ahead…
