Hi everyone! James and I are off for a holiday in Bali in August - we're only going for a week, so unfortunately no volunteering this time, however we'd like to try to raise some money to donate to and/or buy needed items, for an extremely worthwhile non-profit organisation in Bali, called Safe Childhoods. Check them out at www.safechildhoods.org.
With the end of the trial for Daniel Morcombe's killer just occurring, this is no doubt an awful issue that a lot of you feel strongly about right now. Here's an opportunity for you to help make a difference!
Safe Childhoods' mission is to combat Crimes against Children in developing countries. Crimes Against Children include Child Trafficking for the Sex Trade, Child Sexual Exploitation in Travel & Tourism, Online Child Sexual Abuse, Female Genital Mutilation, War Crimes Against Children, and Harvesting of Children's Organs.
One of the many things they have done is to establish The Sanctuary - a safe house and therapeutic centre for rescued children. Children rescued from brothels in Indonesia, from brothels in "buyer countries", private homes where sexual abuse takes place, and communities that have information on organ harvesting. The project is half completed, but needs further funding in order to finish it off so they can move children in desperate situations into protective custody.
Safe Childhoods also assists with raids, provides schooling to street kids, provides employment for mums of street kids, facilitates the reintegration of rescued kids back into the community, and so much more. What an amazing organisation!
So can you help to keep this organisation going, so that more kids can be rescued and rehabilitated? Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Will post pics of the centre and where your money is going when we get there! xx
