I met someone who reminded me what true loyalty and love look like. Steven and his dog Alexandria at the dog park in downtown chicago. During the summer days I used to play pickleball and he told me he stays behind the court to be safe with his dog. He used to work for the CTA and one day he got sick, lost his job and unfortunately lost his home. I got to know him and from there, I try to help him as much as I can. Eventually the days got colder so bought him a tent. From time to time, I give dog food to Alexandria.
Steven shared to me that he is worried he cant find a job because he has a dog. He cant leave her behind. His plan was to sign up with uber eats and doordash to deliver food so he can make money. He told me he needed an e-bike to do it and just carry his dog with him. I told him I have a dog cart that he can connect behind the bike so Alexandria can tag along. I will give him that once he has the e-bike. I also suggested to him that we’ll make a Gofundme page so he can get the bike and some essentials.
This part, I would like to introduce myself. Hi, my name is Kris. I honestly don’t make much but I do like to help people in need like really help them. I have this thing I call, compassion OCD. Like I cant help myself not helping someone who I know needs help if that makes sense. I know it sounds confusing. I don't judge people whatever they did in the past. Whats important is whats happening now and what can I do about it. I’m starting this GoFundMe to help them get the essentials they urgently need.
As temperatures drop and the nights grow really cold, Steven and his sweet dog, Alexandria are doing their best to survive the freezing weather with almost nothing. Despite the hardship, the love between them is undeniable. He gives his dog the little warmth, food, and comfort he has before thinking of himself. Every dollar, every share, and every kind thought can make a profound difference in their lives.
If you’ve ever looked at someone and thought, “I wish I could do something,” this is that moment. Let’s come together and show them they’re not invisible—and that compassion still exists.
Thank you for helping keep them safe, warm, and hopeful this winter.
PS. Tomorrow I will ask Steven to send me photo of him and his dog. Also, the photos right now are the prices of the things he needs from Amazon.
