Help Steve Milloy Make San Diego Home (Yes, This City Is Expensive)
Hi friends, I’m D.J., and I’m starting this GoFundMe in a personal capacity to support Steve Milloy, the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus’s new Artistic Director, as he relocates to San Diego. This fundraiser is not affiliated with the Chorus, its Board, or its leadership. It’s simply me*, rallying the community for someone who’s already shown up for us in a big way.
If you’ve ever moved to San Diego, you know the truth: the sunshine is free, but everything else is not. Between deposits, moving trucks, temporary housing, and the million tiny costs that pop up at the worst possible time, relocating here can feel like an extreme sport.
Why I’m doing this
Steve has done so much for the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus in just the last several months, and he’s done it with serious commitment. Since he started, Steve has been driving down from his home in Laguna Hills (over 70 miles away!) to lead rehearsals and support the Chorus. That’s time, energy, and dedication he’s been giving week after week, because he believes in this group and this community.
And it’s working. His leadership has brought fresh energy, raised the bar artistically, and helped attract amazing new talent. You can feel the momentum in the room.
Now we want to help Steve land here with less stress and more stability, so he can focus on what he does best: building something extraordinary with our community.
What your gift supports
Your donation will help cover real, practical relocation costs like:
- moving and transportation expenses
- housing application fees and deposits (because… San Diego)
- basic setup costs for a new home (utilities, essentials, the unglamorous stuff)
How you can help
If you can give, thank you. If you can’t, please share this page. Every contribution and every repost helps Steve feel welcomed, supported, and set up to thrive here.
Let’s do what this community does best: show up for our people!
With gratitude,
D.J.
*Props to baritone Ronald Ligon as well, who had the same idea at the same time
