My name is Brittany, and I’m asking for help so my family can be with my father, Steve Jones, during the most critical chapter of his life. Steve was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant melanoma. His PET scans revealed tumors throughout his body. He has begun T‑cell treatment, not as a cure, but as a way to buy him more time. Time that we desperately want to spend with him.
My father lives in Wyoming. I live in Ohio with my husband and our three children, ages 14, 8, and 3. The distance has never felt as painful as it does now. My kids adore their grandpa. They deserve the chance to make memories with him while they still can — memories that will carry them through the rest of their lives. At the same time, my mother has begun showing signs of early dementia. She needs support, stability, and familiar faces. My dad has always been her anchor, and now they both need help.
My husband and I both served as military police in the U.S. Army, in both active duty and the reserves. I spent time at Guantánamo Bay. After leaving the military, I worked as a veterinary technician and now as an ultrasound tech — experience that gives me the medical understanding to help care for my parents in ways few children can. A few years ago, my husband unexpectedly lost his job, and we fell into debt. We’ve been working hard to rebuild, but the setback has made it impossible for us to relocate quickly, even though we know how urgently we need to be there.
We are not asking for help lightly. We simply cannot move until we pay down a significant portion of this debt and cover the costs of relocating a family of five across the country. Every dollar donated goes directly toward paying down the debt preventing us from relocating, moving expenses (travel, housing transition, transportation), allowing us to be physically present to care for my dad and support my mom, and giving my children meaningful time with their grandfather while we still have it.
