Help Huber Starlight Distillery Make Sanitizer
Donation protected
Huber's Starlight Distillery, among the oldest craft distilleries in Indiana, has been producing high quality craft spirits for almost two decades. When the global pandemic spurred by the spread of COVID-19 hit, we shifted our focus and attention to ways we could help the community. (See links below for more information on the formula used and guidelines followed.)
Since March 14, 2020, our distillery has been manufacturing and distributing Hand Sanitizer. We began with materials on hand, using our own staff, equipment, and resources, and a grassroots effort to distribute it immediately to the community free of charge.
That initial effort quickly grew, and we were fortunate to partner with members of our community to continue to source raw materials and other resources. Our friends at Sazerac Company, Mathes Pharmacy, Pfau Induatries, PC Lumber, Ace Hardware, One Southern Indiana, Shelby County Co-op, and countless other private donors and individuals helped us in so many ways. From connecting us to sources for the necessary raw materials to donating buckets for distribution, our partnerships got us what we needed to produce and distribute over 4,000 gallons of Sanitizer, at no cost to the community, over a period of approximately 6 weeks.
While in the beginning our focus was to provide much needed sanitizer to the Front Line Essential Employees in our community, we quickly realized that the need was not only far greater than we imagined, but was not likely to decrease anytime soon. As we all start to make plans to reopen regular operations and the States begin to evaluate necessary protocols and procedures for that to take place, we had a decision to make. Do we continue to manufacture Sanitizer and distribute it at no cost to our neighbors, workers, and fellow business owners or do we concentrate solely on resuming our normal operations?
It was an easy decision to make. With the connections and industry resources we have at our disposal, we are in a position to obtain raw materials that will allow us to manufacture Sanitizer on a larger scale. Knowing how great the need will continue to be, we are absolutely committed to doing whatever we can, for as long as we can, to help our community.
Initially, with the help of some community partners, we were able to distribute to the front line free of charge. However, given the large scale on which we are now operating, we have created this campaign as a way to connect those of you who would like to contribute to our efforts to do even more. It costs us approximately $16 per gallon to manufacture Sanitizer, so as we endeavor to expand our production, donations are the only way we can expand those efforts and reach even more members of the community. All funds collected will go exclusively towards the cost of raw materials to produce Sanitizer. We will continue to donate our time, staff, use of our facility, and our own materials and resources, but will need your help moving forward.
Your support is absolutely invaluable to us. We cannot express what it means to be a part of a community that takes care of its neighbor, even if that neighbor is located across town, across the state, or even across the country. That commitment and connection is what inspires us to continue to help in every way possible.
